About us

Hello everyone!

My name is Katerie and I'm the little busy bee behind this first Sue Thomas F.B.Eye Fan Convention. The Convention is coming up fast and I thought it was about time to introduce myself.

I discovered STFBE quite recently, after they had stopped filming new episodes, and I immediately fell in love with the show. The series was based on two values that are now lost on many TV shows: unwavering friendship and profound respect. I loved the show because the characters were adorable, everyone was treated with great respect, and it opened my eyes to a new universe - deafness.

I have discovered real passions through different TV shows. One inspired me to learn German and travel to Europe all by myself. Another introduced me to the US military, writing, and wonderful friends. STFBE reminded me of a friend in college who had once told me how she had learned sign language: her babysitter was deaf! Deaf Culture had always interested me, and STFBE gave me the motivation I needed to learn a new language. I started with LSQ (the sign language for Québec, where I live), but I rapidly switched to ASL when I noticed all the differences between both languages. I still have some dexterity issues, but I'm working on it!

A great show like STFBE deserves to be honoured, and that's when I started thinking about the Convention. It was a bold move: I didn't know any of the actors personally, I didn't have any contact with the production team and I lived six hours from Toronto. But I knew one thing - this tribute would not only be a memorable occasion to meet new friends, it would also serve as a fundraising event for charities involved in the Deaf Community in Ontario.

So I worked from scratch: I developed my own contact list, sent invitations to the actors, contacted established STFBE fansites for some advertising, searched and found the perfect hotel, planned various games and activities, etc. This Convention is almost a second full-time job, because of all the time and energy it requires, but I love every second of it! Every time I receive an email from someone on the show, every time someone expresses an interest in the project, every time someone says "I want to be there," I feel a new burst of energy and I get a confirmation that this was the right thing to do.

Thank you to all those who believed in me and those who helped me along the way - your support is invaluable.

See you soon!

Katerie
